Welcome to your new thriving academic community

David F. Slade, Provost

Welcome to Berry College, new and returning students! With your arrival also comes the heart of Berry’s mission to educate the head, heart and hands, inspiring leaders of integrity who cultivate thriving communities.

Whether you are a first-year student, a transfer student, or a student in one of our great graduate programs, if this is your first semester at Mount Berry, you enter this thriving community as a key contributor. Bring you best version to your classwork and all your purposeful pursuits.  Your faculty and staff members across the college are here to mentor you, to support you, and walk with you over these next few years.

New students, your First-Year Seminar course (BCC 100) will help equip you to arrive well and launch into your Berry Journey.  I encourage you to see it as a gift, as you learn the ropes and start to identify an emerging sense of direction.

If you are returning to Berry for your second or third year, it could be that the course Designing Your Life at Berry and Beyond (BCC 200) is just what you need to start this year well.  If you haven’t already, consider adding this course to your schedule (before add/drop!) as an investment in your own planning and growth.

The Office of the Provost is here to support your academic and whole-person growth as students.  Whether it is through your faculty, staff in the Berry Center for Integrity and Leadership, through the Center for Personal and Professional Development, Memorial Library, International Experiences, Undergraduate Research, the Registrar’s Office, or many other units of Academic Affairs, we are all here to support you.

I wish you much success for a joyful and engaging year and invite you to lean into the community and opportunities around you.
